Things to see and do

We are lucky here in Northumberland. Not only do we have the unspoilt countryside but also the coastline, sheltered behind the Cheviot Hills. There are a host of interesting things to do and see such as ...

Walking - The ideal base for exploring the beautiful Northumberland coast and countryside. There is some wonderful walking in the area. If you are looking for a walking holiday look at Contours or sherpa walking holidays. If you are planning your own walking holiday then we would be more than happy to help and can recommend a luggage collection service for you. If you need a packed lunch we can also provide this.

Castles - Alnwick Castle, (Hogwarts to Harry Potter fans!), home of the Duke of Northumberland, Alnwick Gardens (featuring the worlds largest tree house) - Bamburgh Castle - Lindisfarne Castle on Holy Island - Cragside Hall and our very own Dunstanburgh Castle, former stronghold of John 'O' Gaunt, is a short walk from the hotel.

Bird Watching - Visit the bird and seal colonies and you can arrange diving on the Farne Islands which are also the scene of Grace Darling's heroic rescue. Regular boat trips can be taken from nearby Seahouses. Arrange birdwatching here on a day trip to Lindisfarne and other popular birdwatching sites

Golf - There are many courses and links in the area, all offering good golf at reasonable prices. They vary from excellent 18 hole to friendly village 9 hole courses. Embleton offers the beautiful backdrop of Dunstanburgh castle ruins.

Cycling -  We are idealy located on the coast and castles (route 1) cycle route, we have secure overnight storage for bikes, an area where you can clean them off and packed lunches are available. Find out more information at https://you-well.co.uk/sea-to-sea-guide/.

Sightseeing - Howick Hall Gardens - Holy Island - Alnwick Castle & Gardens - Chillingham home of the famous herd of wild white cattle - The Cheviot Hills - Kielder Forest and Lake - Hadrian's Wall - miles and miles of award winning sandy beaches, need we go on?

Active sports - Wind surfing, sailing, canoeing at nearby Newton-by-the-Sea and Beadnell Bay - Coarse, Fly and Sea fishing - cycling - walking the hills - everything from lying on the beach to parachute lessons!

Shopping - Although we are in the midst of the quiet countryside, Newcastle is only a short car ride away (approx 45 minutes). You will find excellent shopping in the Metro and Eldon Square centres along with cinemas, night clubs and a theatre. A one hour drive North from us will take you to Edinburgh and everything this beautiful Scottish city has to offer the visitor.

The hotel has a wide range of tourist information available and our staff are always on hand for help and advice to make your stay in Northumberland a memorable one.
